I hope you can take criticism as an expression of love: Khairul Basar
BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman returned to the country yesterday, prompting reactions across political and cultural circles. Marking his homecoming, small-screen actor Khairul Basar welcomed him with a Facebook post, expressing hope that peace would return to the country through this development.
In a status shared on his personal verified Facebook account, Basar wrote, "Welcome to Bangladesh," while also offering a reflective message rooted in the landscape and emotions of Bengal. Praising Tarique Rahman, the actor expressed his expectations in poetic terms, saying, "May the touch of Bangladesh's dew-soaked grass cool your heart, and under your leadership may peace return to this country. May you remain healthy and well, and continue to be a source of trust for the people of Bangladesh—this is my prayer."
Basar further shared his views on the country's political future, expressing hope that Tarique Rahman's party may take on important responsibilities in governing the nation. He noted that if the people entrust Tarique Rahman with the responsibility of running the state, he would not hesitate to criticise any inconsistencies, even if he may not be able to praise every positive initiative.
Addressing this directly, Basar wrote, "When the people of the country entrust you with the responsibility of the nation, from that day onward, even if I cannot praise all your good work, I will offer forceful criticism against any inconsistencies."
The post has generated mixed reactions on social media. While many have described it as the voice of a responsible citizen, others have interpreted it as a political statement. Some commenters believe Basar's words could spark fresh discussions in both political and cultural arenas, though the post has also drawn negative reactions.
Concluding his status, Basar added, "I hope you will always take criticism as an expression of love, and see the discomfort and restlessness of ordinary people as their way of speaking."
