Today marks the 75th birth anniversary of Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque, whom we know as the Mia Bhai of Bangladeshi film industry. He was one of the most distinguished actors during the golden period of the film industry.

From "Nayanmoni", "Sujon Shokhi", "Lathiyal", "Golapi Ekhon Train-e" to films like "Shareng Bou" and "Miya Bhai", the films have left the mark of his performance in audience's hearts till date.

On May 15, this year we lost this legendary actor who was a freedom fighter, and a member of the parliament.

He had immense love and respect for the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which is why he would never celebrate his birthday, as August is the month of mourning.

In many interviews with The Daily Star, he shared that before 1975 he would celebrate this day with his family and friends.

Yet, his wife and children would bring cake to celebrate the day, and he would cut the cake to make them happy, but never arranged any party on his birthday. His family was aware of this fact too.

Farooque was celebrated for his portrayal in  social films, and at the same time he was known as a romantic hero.

His performance made the audience laugh and cry. The timeless song "Ore Neel Doriya" from the film "Shareng Bou" is still the audience's favourite.

Born in Dhaka in 1948, Farooque made his acting debut in the silver screens in 1971 with the film "Jolchobi", starring opposite Kabori.

It is his first birthday since he left us. Commemorating this day, and remembering him, his daughter Fariha Pathan wrote a poem titled "Wings", which was published today at The Daily Star's print version.
