‘Demon Slayer’ season 3 concludes with journey of epic backstories, breakthroughs
Yesterday, a momentous set of events went down. While the servers of Crunchyroll went down as viewers around the world tuned in to watch the highly anticipated season finale of "Demon Slayer" season 3, so did Tanjiro's sword, down another Upper rank demon, and out came one of the biggest reveals of the series so far.

Although it is usually the manga that is adored more, the anime "Kimetsu No Yaiba" or "Demon Slayer" has garnered immensely positive reviews since the very beginning of its release. As the third season of Demon Slayer drew to an end wrapping up the Swordsmith Village arc, Ufotable wasted no time in announcing a fourth season by releasing an official teaser trailer.
Season 3 picks up right at the end of the Entertainment arc with our faithful protagonist waking up after months of sleep after the major showdown in the Entertainment district. Featuring our faithful protagonists Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, two hashiras Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji, and two demons, Hantenga and Gyokko, it takes place in the Swordsmith Village where Tanjiro has gone to repair his sword. Unlike other seasons, Inosuke and Zenitsu are missing for the most bit as they are sent on their separate missions.
Season 3 has been eventful to say the least. From Haganezuka showing his striking face and Tokito showing emotions finally, to the secret behind Mitsuri's sakura mochi-hued hair, there was a lot to digest. Much like Genya's demon eating, and hearing Nezuko talk again, walking out in the sunlight. The season has delivered and tied the loose ends, that have been waving in the winds for awhile now.
The season has also noticeably been about the female characters shining. It has definitely been about seeing Nezuko shining with the culmination of her personal development arc blaring in the final episodes. Not only does she take charge and heavily contribute to the battle against the cloning demon Hantengu, she also shows resilience like no other in sending Tanjiro to save the humans at the break of dawn at her own expense.
Mitsuri, whose characteristic quirks prove to be her strength, comes at a pivotal moment to help save Genyra, Tanjiro and Nezuko in a moment of incredible distress. Especially, the 70-minute long finale is thrilling, to say the least, presenting numerous heart-pounding moments with Nezuko at stake and Tanjiro's duties as a Demon slayer proving fatal for her. One can't help but feel heartbroken as Tanjiro Kamado is torn apart, seeing memories with his sister flashing in front of his eyes but in the season that has been overly focused on Nezuko, she helps to make the final decision for Tanjiro.
Demon slayer is known for its amazing character origin stories and this season is full of them. In hindsight, Genya and Muichiro have suffered quite similarly yet hauntingly scarring each on its own as the brothers deal with the loss of their family members to demons. Not only are we presented with the backstories of the two hashiras and the two demons, we catch a better glimpse of Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon in history. Unlike the other back stories which are portrayed in black and white frames, an intense red hue overpowers the montage of Muzan's past life to reflect on the bloodshed and violence he committed.
The anime picks on amazing details of each volume of the manga. In fact, Muichiro's backstory may have just been even better than the manga itself. There are less Tanjiro and Nezuko scenes while focusing on other backstories for the most part. If you had been waiting to see Inosuke and Zenitsu at the end of the season, you're not the only one.
In the same season, the series picks the issue of societal expectations from females, and Mitsuri's journey of self-acceptance, adding more to women shining in this series. We shouldn't forget the assertive character of Aoi Kanzaki in the first episode either.
As the action-packed third season comes to an end, we are not far from a lighter arc of seeing Tanjiro train and bond with the other heroes. Although official dates are not out yet, we can expect "Season 4- the Hashira Training" arc to roll out soon with major squad goals featuring the five hashiras Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, Gyomei Himejima, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Iguro Obanai as seen in the official teaser trailer.
