BSFF to host memorial for Anjan with ‘Meghmallar’ screening

The Bangladesh Short Film Forum (BSFF) has organised a memorial event in honour of filmmaker, film activist, and educator Zahidur Rahim Anjan, who previously served as the organisation's president.
The event is set to take place tomorrow (March 7) at the Chitrashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Alongside members of the Short Film Forum, Anjan's family, relatives, and members of the film fraternity are expected to attend.
According to the organisers, the memorial will commence at 3pm. Following Iftar, Anjan's debut feature film "Meghmallar" will be screened at the same venue.
The film, based on Akhteruzzaman Elias' Liberation War-inspired short story "Raincoat", portrays the turbulent days of Bangladesh's independence struggle.
Alongside directing "Meghmallar", Zahidur Rahim Anjan also wrote the film's screenplay. The film won a total of five National Film Awards, including recognition in both these categories.
His last directorial venture, "Chander Amabashya", was produced with government funding. Although the film was scheduled for release last year after completing its shoot, Anjan was unable to proceed due to the country's overall situation and his deteriorating health.
However, he was eager to bring the film to audiences soon and had even unveiled its official poster.
Anjan had been suffering from liver complications for an extended period and had been undergoing treatment in India over the past few months. Most recently, he was admitted to Sparsh Hospital in Bengaluru.
In mid-February, doctors decided to perform a liver transplant. However, following the surgery, his condition deteriorated, and he was placed on life support. The noted filmmaker passed away while undergoing treatment on February 24.
His body was brought back to Bangladesh on February 26. The following day, after a tribute ceremony in front of the National Museum, Anjan was laid to rest beside his mother at Azimpur Graveyard.
