Yesterday, Karan Johar released the trailer of his upcoming family drama "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani". Ranveer plays a hunky Punjabi guy who falls in love with bong beauty Alia. Sparks flies but family ties create hindrance in this grand Bollywood style film.

Rani belongs from a well-educated Bengali family from Kolkata, whereas Ranveer's persona is a grander version of his "Band, Baaja, Baraat" performance.

Because their worlds are polar opposites, they decide to switch their families before marriage to see if their marriage will endure. They, however, do not fit in. Dhanlakshmi, played by Jaya Bachchan, is clearly the villain in Rani and Rocky's 'not-so-perfect' love story.

Karan Johar revealed various images of Alia and Ranveer from the film ahead of the release of the trailer. The makers also released their first romantic number from the album, "Tum Kya Mile," which quickly proved popular among music fans. The song, composed by Pritam and sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, was shot earlier this year in Kashmir.

"Rocky & Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" marks Karan's return to directing after "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" in 2016. Despite directing two short films in the anthology play "Lust Stories" and "Ghost Stories," he never directed a feature film.

Karan intends to pay respect to his 'mentor,' Yash Chopra, who is known as the King of Romance in Hindi cinema, with "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani."

"Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" is set to be released in theaters on July 28. The film also stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.
