The romantic dance drama "Dilnawaz" will grace the stage in Dhaka on Valentine's Day, bringing to life a century-old tale of love and heartbreak set in the royal courts of India.

The story revolves around Dilnawaz, a young servant girl whose presence in the palace brings a change in the ailing prince's health. She becomes a symbol of fortune in the eyes of the queen, growing up within the palace walls and eventually capturing the heart of Prince Shamsher. However, their love remains unfulfilled, as Dilnawaz marches toward her tragic demise while weaving garlands for the prince.

This moving love story was originally written almost 100 years ago by Urdu author Rahat Ara Begum. The tale of forbidden love between a prince and a servant has now been adapted into the dance drama "Dilnawaz" to be staged on Valentine's Day.

Mubashshira Kamal Era stars as Dilnawaz, with Abu Nayeem performing as Prince Shamsher and Umme Habiba Shova portraying the role of the royal queen. A troupe of Dhaka's finest dancers will also join the production, adding to its vibrant choreography and energy.

Reflecting on his role as Prince Shamsher, Abu Nayeem told local media, "It's an honour to perform in a story written so many years ago. The idea that such a heart-touching story existed a century back is truly astounding. We are thrilled to bring this narrative to the younger generation through the art of dance."

Speaking about her debut in the lead role, Mubashshira Kamal Era shared, "This dance drama is going to be a milestone in my brief career as a performer. It's my first ever work in such a production, and playing the lead role is an indescribable feeling. I hope to continue working in this field for years to come."

The dance drama's choreography is directed by Sabbir Ahmed Khan, while the music is composed by Ratul Shankar Ghosh, with legendary dance and cultural personality Lubna Mariam in charge of art direction.

The performance will take place at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, on February 14 at 5:30pm.

"Dilnawaz" has been produced by the cultural organisation Sadhana. Tickets will be available at Banani's Jatra Biroti and Shilpakala Academy before the show.
