One Billion Rising observed for the tenth year

On February 14, 2012, the global campaign 'One Billion Rising' begun as a part of V-Day movement, to establish it as a push to end rape and sexual violence against women across the world. The initiative was founded by Eve Ensler. Following the campaign, One Billion Rising (OBR) Bangladesh has been observing the day for the tenth year.

The event was dedicated to the loving memory of Indian developmental feminist activist, poet, author and social scientist, Kamla Bhasin.

This year, the campaign was observed with a cultural event held at Capital's Shyamoli Park field. The event was inaugurated with a rally in the early evening. The programme was followed by welcome speech, recitation, plays, songs and dance performances by several associations.

Human rights activists also attended the event, where renowned social activist, feminist, and environmentalist Khushi Kabir coordinated the programme. She also spoke at the event about raising awareness about violence against women.
 

The programme was hosted by Kanta Roy and Rukhsana Shirin. Renowned singer Farhin Khan Joyita, popular band F minor performed at the programme alongside performances by Warda Ashraf. While Nahid Sultana lead the Sangat choir, children from Happy Home had a beautiful dance performance alongside Rewaz Performers School, captivating the audience. Bonhishikha and Sangat Performing Space BD performed stage plays. Kanta Roy recited poems while Jayashree Sarkar recited Kamla Bhasin's poetry.

Sumona Shilpi also performed at the event with Jagoroner Oikotan on drums. Moreover, young women presented karate from team Torongo.
