‘Bonolota Express’ cast promises a family treat this Eid
After creating a festive stir last Eid with “Utshob”, director Tanim Noor now returns with “Bonolota Express”, adapted from Humayun Ahmed’s novel “Kichhukhhon”. The film is slated for release this coming Eid and features a star-studded ensemble, five of whom shared their thoughts on the much-anticipated project.
Chanchal Chowdhury said that “Bonolota Express” does not revolve around a single central character. “There is no sole protagonist — everyone is vital. Each actor has delivered remarkably from their own space, and the entire team has done a wonderful job. It’s one of those rare teams you remember for a long time.”
He described the story as “magnificent”, adding that Humayun Ahmed was, above all, a magician of storytelling. “His writing carries the pulse of life, and this film holds that same essence. Audiences will be entertained; there is humour, and above all, it is a purely Bangladeshi story — one hundred per cent rooted in this country.”
Chanchal also noted that he reunites with Mosharraf Karim on screen after 12 years. “Sariful Razz, Badhan, Mamo — everyone has been brilliant. It’s a film for the whole family. Tanim Noor made waves with ‘Utshob’, but I can confidently say ‘Bonolota Express’ will surpass it.” In the film, he portrays a minister — a role he is playing for the first time.
Azmeri Haque Badhan echoed the sentiment. “Just as Humayun Ahmed’s stories captivate readers, the screenplay of ‘Bonolota Express’ has been crafted in the same spirit. It’s a terrific script — audiences will enjoy it.”
She described the narrative as a journey set on a train. “We shot at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), where an elaborate train set was constructed. I don’t know if such a set has ever been built there before. While shooting, it truly felt as though we were inside a moving train.”
Calling it a film that will resonate with viewers of all ages, she added, “This is our country’s cinema — the story is original, the shooting took place here, everything belongs here. It’s going to be a wonderful Eid release.”
For Zakia Bari Mamo, working on a story by Humayun Ahmed carries special significance. “He was a magician of words. Whenever his work is adapted, it becomes something remarkable. ‘Daruchini Dwip’ was made from his writing, and that film brought me immense love from audiences. Even now, people speak about it.”
She expressed her joy at being part of “Bonolota Express”. “Tanim Noor has adapted ‘Kichhukhhon' beautifully. A large ensemble has performed in this film, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I believe audiences will appreciate it. It will add a different dimension to our cinema.”
Veteran actor Faruque Ahmed described the experience of working under Tanim Noor as deeply rewarding. “He is a talented and confident director. There was never any hesitation in executing a scene — he knows exactly what he wants and brings out the best in his actors. He is also a very positive person.”
He admitted that he missed Humayun Ahmed during the shoot. “Since it’s his story, I felt his absence more keenly while doing this film. In truth, I miss him in every project, but especially here.”
In the film, Faruque appears in a striking helicopter rescue sequence. “There are many stars in this project — Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Sariful Razz, Dr Ejaz and many other beloved faces. I am confident the film will be a winner.”
Meanwhile, Intekhab Dinar reflected on Tanim Noor’s rising reputation. “After ‘Utshob’, he received immense praise, and I believe “Bonolota Express" will be something equally special. Just as audiences are waiting to watch it in cinemas, I am waiting too.”
He also praised the impressive BFDC set. “The train set was unforgettable. I played Chitra’s uncle in the film and thoroughly enjoyed the role. Expectations are high — and I believe audiences will truly appreciate it.”
