Lalon commemorated with grand tribute at Suhrawardy Udyan
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs launched a three-day programme in Kushtia to commemorate the 135th death anniversary of Fakir Lalon Shah. The event, which began on October 17, will conclude on October 19.
Today, the celebration commenced at the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan with a Lalon fair, which was followed by a special tribute to renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen.
Keynote speeches at the event have been delivered by Dr Md Rashiduzzaman, professor, Department of Bangla, Islamic University, Kushtia. The special guests who attended the event included heroic freedom fighter Syed Mehdi Ahmed Roomy, former member of parliament, Kushtia-4; Kutub Uddin Ahmed, convener, Zilla BNP, Kushtia; Jannatul Fersaush Toni, chief coordinator, NCP, Kushtia; and Md Rasheduzzaman, acting president, Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), Kushtia.
The programme, chaired by Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arafin, Deputy Commissioner, Kushtia, with Farida Akhter, Adviser, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, as the chief guest.
The musical segment includes performances by Anny Bairagi, Fahmida Ahmed Shifa, Suchona Shely, Baula Band, Pathik Nabi and Team Creative, Arup Rahi, Samageet, Neerab and Bauls, Dina Mondal, Mujib Pardeshi, Kaniz Khandaker Mitu, Sagar Baul, Bengal Symphony, Aleya Begum, Shiblu, Makhon Dewan, Martha, Tuntun Baul and Lalon Band.
On the closing day, tomorrow, the event will be held at Saiji's Mazar, Lalon Academy, Chhauria, Kuarkhali, Kushtia. The programme will begin at 6 pm with a discussion on Lalon Shah, followed by a musical soiree at 7 pm.
