Baby Naznin returns to BTV after two decades

After a two-decade-long absence from Bangladesh Television (BTV), celebrated singer Baby Naznin has made her return to the state-run channel, following a change in the political landscape. Once blacklisted for alleged political reasons, the artiste was invited to perform on March 21 for a special Eid musical programme—marking her first appearance on BTV in 20 years.
The singer happily accepted the invitation and set two significant precedents. The first was through her music, and the other by her message of hope.
The first precedent occurred as she recorded eight songs continuously from Friday (March 21) evening until 4 am on Saturday (March 22) for the solo programme titled "Priyotomo Iktu Shono".

No one associated with BTV could recall the last time an entire night had been devouted to filming a musical programne like this.
The list of songs recorded overnight included some of Baby Naznin's most beloved tracks including "Du Chokhe Ghum Ase Na", "Kal Sararat", "Madhuchandrima", "Koi Gela Nithur", "Daruno Boroshay Nodi", "Priyotomo Ikto Shono", and "Bondhu Tumi Koi".
Additionally, a regional wedding song titled "Khola Hater Baluchore" was recorded. To enhance the programme's variety, three of the songs were choreographed separately under the direction of Kabirul Islam Ratan, with Afroza Sultana serving as the executive producer.
Speaking about the programme, Baby Naznin shared, "The show has been designed with some beloved songs to bring more joy to the Eid celebrations. The production also carries an artistic touch. Overall, I hope many will enjoy it."
In addition to her performance, Baby Naznin also made a significant statement upon her return to BTV.
She called for the end of the political blacklist that had previously excluded certain artistes. In no uncertain terms, she expressed the need to ensure that such incidents from the past should never repeat.
The renowned singer explained, "BTV is not only a state-run channel, but it has also been the nurturing ground for many artistes and stars. Decades have passed, yet no one thought it was necessary to end the unjust denial of performance opportunities for artistes."
"An invisible political blacklist had been created, preventing certain artistes from appearing on the channel. As an artiste, I have felt the pain of being unable to perform on national media for the past twenty years. Finally, with the change in the political landscape, I've had the opportunity to return to BTV," the singer added.

She added, "This return is special in its own way. Now, my only wish is that the events of the past are never repeated. Every artiste should be free to showcase their creations and talents in the media, without restrictions. This is my hope for Bangladesh."
In addition to her appearance on BTV, Baby Naznin will also be featured in several other Eid programmes on various channels.
She has already participated in "Timeline Bangladesh" on GTV and a biographical programme on Ekattor TV. Soon, she will also appear on Jamuna TV's "Jamunar Nimontrone".
