Slain Christian trader’s tenant remanded

A court in Natore placed a man on a two-day remand this morning in a case filed in connection with the killing of a Christian grocer in Baraigram upazila of the district.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Shamsul Al Amin passed the order against Sabuj Hossain, 32, a tenant of victim Sunil Gomez’s house who was picked up by police on June 5 on suspicion over the killing.

Unknown assailants hacked the sixty-year-old Sunil to death at Bonpara Christian Palli in the upazila when he was alone in his shop around noon after offering Sunday prayers.

Yesterday, Abdul Hai, officer-in-charge (OC) of Detective Branch (DB) of police in Natore, produced Shabuj before the court with a five-day remand prayer.

Hours after the incident, global terror outfit Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the killing, according to SITE Intelligence Group that monitors terrorist activities.

Apart from this one, as many as 13 more attacks since the beginning of this year had suspected militant links.
