MP Liton granted bail to attend JS session
A Gaibandha court today granted an ad interim bail to Awami League lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton in a case filed for shooting a 10-year-old boy in Sundarganj upazila in the district on October 2.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Moinul Hasan Yousuf granted him bail so that he can attend the 10th parliament session scheduled for 4:30pm today.
The bail period will continue as long as the parliament session goes on, the court said.
Liton however was not produced before the court today.
On the morning of October 2, Sourav Mia was shot in both legs allegedly by the lawmaker when the boy was taking a morning walk with his uncle at Gopalcharan village of the upazila. Sourav's father Saju Mia filed a case the next day.
Liton was sued in another case on October 6 on charges of vandalising a house and looting furniture and corrugated iron sheets from its roof in a Gaibandha village soon after the shooting.
The court today came up with the order three days after he secured bail in the vandalism case.
Another Gaibandha court had scrapped two bail petitions of Liton in the same cases and sent him to jail on October 15, a day after he was detained from Dhaka.
