Refrain from talks on Shafik Rehman’s arrest: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque today urged people not to hold any discussion in the media over the arrest of journalist Shafik Rehman as an investigation is underway.
“Discussion on the arrest should not be held in any platform, not even television talkshows,” the IGP said while addressing a programme at the Social Science Faculty of Dhaka University this afternoon.
After the arrest, Taleya Rahman, wife of Shafik Rahman, claimed that a group of plainclothes detectives entered her Eskaton residence identifying themselves as crew of private television Boishakhi “to interview him”.
When asked today why the law enforcers identified themselves as journalists, the IGP said the law enforcers went to the house wearing the jackets of Detective Branch of police.
“But we, the law enforcers, apply certain tactics when we go on such drives,” he added.
