7 held with 50,000 illegal SIM cards in Ctg

Detectives arrested seven people along with over 50,000 illegal SIM cards from a market in Riazuddin Bazar area of Chittagong city on Sunday.

Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police launched a drive at 'Royal Plaza CDA Market' at Tamakundi lane in the afternoon.

During the drive, they recovered over 50,000 illegal SIM cards from six shops of the market and arrested seven people, said DB additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Humyan Kabir.

They were arrested for selling the SIM cards of different mobile operators those are registered in others' names in the biometric process, he said.

There is no scope for selling SIMs in the open market after the registration under the biometric method, said DB inspector Faruque Ahmed.
