Bank cashier held for Tk 2 crore embezzlement
Police today arrested a cashier of Janata Bank in Noakhali on charge of misappropriating nearly Tk two crore.
Some bank officials called cashier Liton Chandra Das, 40, at Bashurhat branch of Janata Bank in Companyganj of Noakhali early today and handed him over to police, M Robiul Haque, officer-in-charge of Companyganj Police Station, said.
Liton was the accused in a case filed by the bank's Bashurhat branch manager Shamsul Islam for allegedly embezzling the money, said the OC.
Police filed a petition to a district court seeking remand for Liton Das, the police official added.
Meanwhile, the bank official was sent to jail by a district court this noon, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
According to the case statement, Liton embezzled the money between February 6, 2012 to February 3, 2020 when he was a cashier at Bashurhat branch of the bank. He is now officer (cash) of Char Alexander branch of Janata Bank in Laxmipur.
Shamsul Islam, manager of Janata Bank's Bashurhat branch, told our correspondent that they have already recovered nearly Tk one crore from Liton and continued effort to recover the rest.
