Human trafficker held in Ctg

Police detained a leader of an organised human trafficking gang from a residential hotel in Chittagong city early today.

Detainee Shamsul Alam Sohag, 30, was general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal of Jaliapalong union unit, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting Jahirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ukhiah Police Station.      

Terming him “godfather” of the gang, police said Sohag was engaged in human trafficking for the last 10 years.

Sohag is accused in several human trafficking-related cases, the police officer said.  

Acting on a tip-off, Chittagong Kotwali police launched a raid at a hotel in Station Bazar area of the port city and detained him around 2:30am, the OC said.

He went into hiding as police started the anti-human trafficking drive at different parts in the area, he said.
