Gazipur mayor sent to jail in violence case

A Gazipur court today sent Gazipur City Corporation Mayor MA Mannan and nine others to jail in connection with a violence case. 

Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Iqbal Masud passed the order after rejecting their bail petitions when police produced them before the court this afternoon.

The law enforcers arrested them in Bhannara area of Kaliakoir upazila last night, reports our Gazipur correspondent.

Sub-inspector Ahadul Islam of Joydebpur Police Station filed the case yesterday with the police station against 40 people including Mannam, also a BNP leader, for their alleged involvement in torching and vandalising vehicles at Chandona Chowrasta on the same day.

The other arrestees are: Mannan's brother Abdul Qadir, BNP Abdul Khaliq Dealer, Rofiz Uddin, Shahin Alam, Habibullah, SM Akram, sabdula Ali, Alam and Mizanur Rahman Mizan.
