Farmers yield more on vermicompost fertiliser (video)

Over a hundred of small farmers in Lalmonirhat are living the golden days owing to the yield produced by vermicompost fertiliser.

Using this organic fertiliser – produced from manure and earthworms – farmers say they can produce bonus yield using only half the amount of regular fertilisers.

Farmers and their families at 10 villages in Aditmari, Kaliganj and Sadar upazilas of Lalmonirhat are now being able to sell their produce in the market after meeting their household demand.

A producer of Vermicompost fertiliser at Panchagram village in Sadar upazila, Basanti Rani, 55, said, “I produced 56kg vermicompost fertiliser with 200 earthworms and cultivated bottle-gourd, cucumber and coriander on 16 decimal lands beside our homestead this year.”

Babul Chandra Roy, 35, a farmer at Panchagram village, said vermicompost have a high demand in the village, and many local people come to his home to purchase harmful chemical-free vegetables at a high rate.

Mohana Rani Devnath, 45, of Sindurmati village in Sadar upazila, said, “We are getting high yield using vermicompost fertiliser. Now, we can sell vegetables in the local market at good price after meeting my family’s demand.”
