EU condemns Panchagarh priest murder
European Union Delegation to Bangladesh has strongly condemned the killing of a Hindu priest in Panchagarh and urged the authorities concerned to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Criminals slit the throat of Hindu priest Jogeswar Dasadhikari, 50, and shot a devotee, Gopal Chandra Roy, at a temple in Debiganj of Panchagarh yesterday.
In a statement today, EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Pierre Mayaudon, conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a prompt and full recovery to Gopal Chandra Roy.
Ambassador Mayaudon voiced that an attack on any religion is an attack against all religions and has urged all relevant official authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Alison Blake also condemned the attack.
"The UK stands alongside the people of Bangladesh and against all forms of extremism," she posted on her tweeter account.
"I am horrified at the savage attack on Mr J Roy & Mr G C Roy. Nothing can justify attacks on people because of their faith or beliefs."
