The embankment of 35/1 polder of Water Development Board (WDB) in Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat has collapsed in many places after being hit by super cyclone Amphan.

As a result, low-lying areas of multiple villages in the area were flooded, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

"Many trees and houses were destroyed along with the embankment due to the cyclonic storm," said Azmal Hosen Mukta, general secretary of upazila Awami League.

Besides, more than 500 fish enclosures were also submerged, locals said. They were fearing further flooding through the damaged embankment due to high tide. In this situation, they demanded its immediate mending.

"We are preparing to install ring dams where the embankment was harmed," Md Nahiduzzaman Khan, executive engineer of Bagerhat Water Development Board, said.

The upazila administration has already been directed to assess the losses following Amphan, said Bagerhat District Administrator Mamunur Rashid.
