Biman airbus seized for carrying smuggled gold
Customs Intelligence seized an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines for carrying smuggled gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this afternoon.
“The airbus, S2-ADF, was seized as the authority found 24 pieces gold concealed under a seat,” said Dr Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence.
The market value of the gold, weighing around 2.5kg, is estimated around Tk 1.20 core, the official added.
“The aircraft landed at the airport from Dubai at 3:40pm. It was parked at the hanger area and was waiting to fly for Dubai via Chittagong at 9:00pm,” he said.
“The gold was supposed to be delivered in Chittagong,” he suspected.
Earlier, Customs Intelligence has seized three more aircraft on the same ground.
