Another war crimes suspect held in Maheshkhali
Another war crimes suspect was arrested from Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar early today, three days after a tribunal in Dhaka issued arrest warrant against him and 15 others.
The arrestee is Shamsuddoha, 74, of Baradail village in the upazila, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting Didarul Ferdous inspector (investigation) of Maheshakhali Police Station.
Soon after the arrest warrant was issued by International Crimes Tribunal-2 on May 21, Shamsuddoha went into hiding, the OC added.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched a drive at Shamsuddoha’s son-in-law’s house at Debenga village and arrested him around 5:00am, the police officer said.
The ICT-2 issued the arrest warrant against 16 people including Shamsuddoha for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
With Shamsuddoha, police have so far arrested five war crimes suspects among the 16 suspects.
