2 swords stolen from Rabindranath's Kuthibari

Two swords were stolen from Kuthibari, renowned poet Rabindranath's house, located at the bank of Padma river at Shilaidah in Kushtia today.

The swords might have been stolen from anytime between 5:00pm on Wednesday and 9:00am on Thursday, reports the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Mokhlesur Rahman, custodian of the Kuthibari, has lodged a general diary with local Kumarkhali Police Station in this regard.

In the diary, he said he locked up Kuthibari and went to Khulna around 5:00pm on Wednesday. Baki Billah, a librarian, was left to be in charge.

On Thursday morning, Mokhlesur came to know that two swords among five which were kept inside an almira at room no. 201 on the first floor went missing, he added.

After finding a broken key of the almira, Mokhlesur informed the matter to the officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station over phone. Later, he also informed the incident to his superiors.

Besides, locals are having doubts over the incident as a 10-men Ansar team was guarding the house the whole time in an adjacent camp. The archeology department has also two of its armed security forces deployed around the house.

OC Ziaur Rahman told the Bangla daily that a general diary has been lodged in this regard. "We are facing trouble to arrest anyone in this connection as no case has yet been filed," he added.
