2 die as train hits state-run bus in Ctg
Two people were killed and at least three injured after a cargo train smashed into a passenger bus, a state run BRTC, in Chittagong city today.
Only one of the victims could be identified as Bibi Marium Jasmine, 35, wife of an expatriate Md Shahdat Hossain from Sitakunda, our local correspondent reports.
The injured includes a child. Primarily, a witness blamed the signalman for the incident. A probe committee has been formed to investigate into the incident.
Asif Mohiuddin, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (Panchlaish zone), confirmed the casualties and said the incident took place in Gate Number 2 area around 11:00am.
Md Firoz Alam, a vegetable hawker and a witness, alleged that the signalman was late in shutting the gates down. "The BRTC bus was trapped between the rail gates."
The dead bodies were kept at Chittagong Medical College morgue. The victims underwent treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
A four-member probe body has been formed, to be headed by Divisional Transportatio Officer, Firoz Iftekhar, to investigate into the incident.
