‘JMB den’ raid: 3 militant suspects on 6-day remand
A Dhaka court this evening placed three suspected Islamist militants on a six-day remand in connection with yesterday’s crackdown at an alleged militant den in Dhaka’s Mirpur.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Detective Branch (DB) of police filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against the three and two other absconding militant suspects over the raid.
Another five to six unnamed people were accused in the case filed with the capital’s Shah Ali Police Station in connection with the crackdown at the alleged den where six youths were detained and 16 improvised grenades were seized, Kaniz Sharmin Tamanna, a sub-inspector of the police station, told The Daily Star.
Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mazharul Islam granted six days’ remand for each of three after detectives produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
Contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DB Md Sanwar Hossain told The Daily Star that all five named accused were members of the banned militant outfit Jamaa'tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
In a 15-hour crackdown in a 'JMB' den at Mirpur, detectives yesterday seized 16 improvised grenades, other ingredients, including enough power gel to make over 200 bombs and grenades, and a suicide vest, according to police.
Six youths, aged between 20 and 30, were said to be detained during the raid at two apartments on the top floor of a six-storey building in Shah Ali area.
