Transport drivers’ union office vandalised in Tejgaon
Several hundred workers of Bangladesh Truck and Covered Van Drivers' Union vandalised their office and burnt its furniture and documents at Tejgaon Truck Stand in Dhaka this morning.
The incident took place when two groups of workers locked into a scuffle around 11:30am.
The workers are the supporters of Haji Muhammad Humayun Kabir and Talukder Md Manir, who are candidates of the union’s presidency election.
The election was held at Kalabagan Cricket field in the capital today.
Md Salam, a supporter of Kabir, told The Daily Star that the supporters of Manir did not allow them to vote in favour of their candidate during the election.
On the other hand, Md Mamun, a supporter of Manir, said Kabir’s supporters were trying to create a chaotic situation as they knew that they would be defeated in the poll.
