SCBA polls begin
The two-day election to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts, including president and secretary, began this morning.
Some 2,970 lawyers out of total 7,825 cast their votes on the first day of election.
The first-day voting started at 10:15am and concluded at 5:15pm at the SCBA auditorium building, SCBA Superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das told The Daily Star.
SCBA sources said the main contest would be held between the panel of the ruling Awami League-backed Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel.
Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad has nominated Advocate AM Aminuddin and Advocate Md Abdun Nur Dulal as candidates for the posts of president and secretary. Aminuddin was a former secretary of SCBA.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel has nominated Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, a former SCBA president, and its incumbent secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon as candidates for the posts of president and secretary.
