SCBA polls on March 13-14
The two-day annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts including that of its president and secretary will be held on March 13 and 14.
A total of 7,825 lawyers have registered as voters to exercise their franchise in the country’s prime bar association election, SCBA’s Superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das told The Daily Star today.
The executive committee of the association has recently fixed the schedule for its election, he said, adding that a four-member committee led by Advocate AY Masiuzzaman will conduct the election.
SCBA sources said the main contest in the election would take place between the panels of ruling Awami League-backed Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel.
Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad has nominated Advocate AM Aminuddin, a former SCBA secretary, and Advocate Md Abdun Nur Dulal as candidates for the posts of president and secretary of the SCBA respectively.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel has finalised Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, a former SCBA president, and its incumbent secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon as candidates for the posts of president and secretary.
