Officer leads voter to use fake vote
When was told that his vote was already cast, Jahangir Alam burst into protest.
He travelled all the way to Teachers Training College polling centre in Dhanmondi from Mirpur area to cast his vote today. He had registered as a voter in Elephant Road area but now lives in Mirpur DOHS.
As he stepped in to vote, he was told that he could not cast it because his serial, 449, at the centre had already been marked cast.
As newsmen approached to inquire what happened, presiding officer Kamal Hossain agreed to let him cast his vote.
"There are a few stray incidents like this," he said.
When he came out after voting, curious newsmen asked him how he managed to cast his vote once that someone had already used his serial.
"The presiding officer asked me to use the next serial, which is 450," he replied.
That means Jahangir was asked to infringe someone else's voting right.
Other than this incident, this correspondent found voting going on peacefully amid thin presence of voters during 20-minute stay at the centre till the noon today. The centre has been marked risky because of its proximity to Dhaka College and Dhaka University.
