‘Hizb ut-Tahrir’ man held in Dhaka

Police today claimed arrest of a member of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from Dhaka’s Jatrabari area.

Arrestee Jahidul Islam alias Jahid, 37, was a member of media wing of the banned outfit, Md Mahiduzzaman, special superintendent of Anti-Terrorism Unit (legal and media) of police, told The Daily Star.

A special team of Anti-Terrorism Unit in a drive arrested Jahid from Bibir Bagicha No. 1 gate in Jatrabari yesterday, Mahiduzzaman said.

The arrest was made based on information given by another Hizb ut-Tahrir membe and IT specialist Riaz Uddin Sipai, who was arrested from the city’s Keraniganj area recently, he said.

During the drive, the ATU seized a laptop and four mobile phones and extremist books from his procession, said the police official.
