'Mugger' killed in Dhaka cop firing
An alleged mugger was killed in police firing this afternoon while fleeing after snatching money from a pedestrian in Tikatuli area of Dhaka.
The deceased was identified as Akash Ferdous, 30, of Dakkhin Keraniganj.
A gang of three muggers snatched Tk 78,000 from Sharif Hafizur Rahman around 3:30pm and tried to flee the scene, said Tapan Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station.
As the victim shouted for help, policemen rushed in from the nearby area, the OC said.
In the meantime, the muggers hurled two crude bombs targeting the law enforcers, forcing them to fire two shots that hit on the legs of the deceased, he added
Akash was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds around 5:00pm.
Two crude bombs and Tk 28,000 were found in possession of the deceased, the police official added.
According to his mother, Aleya Begum, Akash has a mobile business.
