A man accused of raping a six-year-old girl in Narayanganj’s Fatullah yesterday was beaten by locals and later admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to police.
The victim’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Fatullah Model Police Station this morning, said Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of police of the district.
Two people -- Hero, 22, and Sohel, 21, -- have been named in the case, he added.
According to the police official, the alleged rape took place yesterday afternoon, as claimed by the victim’s family. When locals came to know the incident at night, they caught one of the suspects, Hero, and beat him.
Police later rescued Hero in critical condition and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
As of 11:30am today, the accused was undergoing treatment in the ICU under police custody, the official said.
Sohel went into hiding after the incident, he added.
