Fire at Motijheel building, 1 dead

One person died after a fire at a building in Dhaka’s commercial hub Motijheel this morning.

The deceased was identified (from his ID card) as Prof SM Shahnewaz Bin Tobid, a doctor of Islami Bank Specialised and General Hospital.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of ten-storeyed Haji Mansion near Biman office at Dilkusha intersection around 11:50am, Mahmudul Huq, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil defense headquarters told The Daily Star.

Three units of Fire Service and Civil Defence brought the fire under control, he said. The victim was rescued from the burning building and rushed to a hospital.

Later, doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared him dead.
