Fire gutted six tin-roofed shops and a bakery in Pashchim Madarbari area of Chittagong city early today.

The fire originated in one of the shops that include a hotel, an electronic items shop and a pharmacy at around 3:30am and spread to the adjacent shops immediately, said Fire Service sources.

Fire fighters from Agrabad and Nandankanon Fire Stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire around 6:00am, they added.

The estimated damage by the fire is about Tk5 lakh, they said, adding that no casualty was reported in the incident.
