DU suspends 3 students over sexual assault
Dhaka University authorities have suspended three students, who belong to Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), over assaulting a female student early yesterday.
DU acting proctor Prof M Amzad Ali confirmed it to The Daily Star this afternoon.
The suspended students are Ratul Hasan Naem of applied mathematics, Amirul Islam of zoology and Nazmus Sakib of statistics departments. They are 1st year students of the university and residents of Amar Ekushey hall.
The authorities have formed a two-member probe body, asking it to submit a report within the shortest possible time.
“The students might be expelled from the university after analysing the probe committee report,” Dr Amzad told The Daily Star.
The authorities also issued a show-cause notice asking the victim, a third-year population science student, and her friend, who is also a student of the same department and a resident of Surya Sen hall to explain why they were staying at the TSC premises so late at night, said the proctor.
The authorities will also take actions against them if they are found guilty in the incident, he added.
Meanwhile, DU unit BCL President Abid Al Hasan said though they are BCL activists, the DU administration can take any action against them.
