DNCC by-polls: Banks to remain closed in Dhaka

BB suspends lending activities of S Alam-linked banks

All scheduled banks and non-banking financial institutions in the capital will remain closed tomorrow for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls.

Besides, headquarters of the central bank and its branches located in the capital will also remain closed on the day, facilitating employees of the financial institutes for smooth voting.

Banks’ branches outside Dhaka city will remain open as usual, according to a central bank circular released yesterday.

Md Serajul Islam, executive director and spokesperson of the central bank, told The Daily Star that banks and their branches were remained closed in electoral area ahead of the election.

A limited phase of foreign exchange related banking operation in both the central bank and commercial banks will continue, as such function is not closed even the public holidays, he said.
