Culture of impunity encouraging crimes: Dr Mizan
National Human Rights Commission Chairman Mizanur Rahman today said justice is yet to be served in the Kalpana Chakma case even after 19 years of her disappearance, and the culture of impunity in the society is to be blamed for it.
On the occasion of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Manusher Jonno Foundation arranged a two-day long programme, inaugurated today, where Mizanur Rahman gave his observations.
“This culture of impunity is spreading into all realms of the society and due to this crime and violence have increased,” he added.
He further said people like Niloy are being killed because religious fundamentalists are targeting them.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon was also present in the event where he said, “We are not sensitive towards the indigenous people in our society. And that’s why we are celebrating International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on such a day where we are still fighting for equal rights for our indigenous communities.”
Santu Larma, president of Bangladesh Adivasi Forum, was also present in the event.
