Clear Tejgaon terminal by Nov 27
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq issued a November 27 ultimatum to the truck owners to clear the illegal infrastructures from Tejgaon terminal to increase parking space to reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The ultimatum was given after a meeting with the owners and leaders at the terminal yesterday.
Annisul said the railway did not give any allotment to anybody; those structures at the truck stand are illegal.
Rustam Ali Khan, general secretary of Bangladesh Truck Covered-Van Owners Association, told The Daily Star that most of the places are occupied with shops and restaurants, which has reduced the capacity of parking trucks in the stand.
He said only 200 to 250 trucks can accommodate now, they will be able to accommodate 700 to 800 after the eviction.
The DNCC earlier had given ultimatum to the truck owners to shift their trucks by November 7 as it is one of the major reasons of traffic congestion.
