3 gold bars recovered from smuggler at court toilet
A man brought out three gold bars from his rectum at a toilet today when he was produced before a Dhaka court in a case filed over the recovery of another three bars from him.
Accused Arif Hossain Munshi, 36, was arrested yesterday morning at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka with three gold bars, said Murad Hossain, officer-in-charge of the jail at Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
Arif was produced before the court today with a 10-day remand in the case filed against him with Airport Police Station in connection with the recovery, he added.
Before a hearing on the remand prayer, Arif was kept at the court jail when he went to a toilet there.
Police found his behaviour suspicious after he came out of the toilet and recovered three gold bars from his possession after a search, the OC told The Daily Star.
The incident took place after Arif visited the restroom at the court jail and brought out the gold bars he was hiding inside his rectum. He has confessed that he was trying to pass the bars to someone known to him at the court, the police official also said.
Another case will be filed against Arif with Kotwali Police Station in this regard, the OC added.
