Bangladeshi student secures UK patent for AI-powered wearable health device

Bimol Chandra Das, a Bangladeshi graduate student of Trine University in the United States, has acquired a design patent from the United Kingdom's Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) for an artificial intelligence (AI) powered wearable device developed to advance remote health monitoring and patient management.

The UK patent formally secures the design of Das's innovation – AI-Based Healthcare Monitoring System. The system is built to address critical gaps in preventive healthcare and chronic disease management by combining real-time biometric data with AI-driven medical insights.

At the core of the invention is a smart wearable device capable of tracking key health indicators such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and body temperature. Its embedded AI engine analyses these readings to detect anomalies, predict potential health issues, and trigger emergency SOS alerts, shifting healthcare from reactive treatment to proactive prevention.

Beyond the device, Das has envisioned a connected digital ecosystem. The accompanying mobile application includes dedicated portals for patients and healthcare professionals. A BioGPT-powered medical chatbot provides real-time assistance and conversational support, while forthcoming integration with Electronic Health Records (EHR) will allow seamless data sharing with hospitals for faster diagnosis and decision-making.

"The next chapter in US healthcare is about intelligence and connection," he said. "By combining wearables with AI, we can empower proactive care that anticipates health issues before they escalate, delivering better outcomes for patients nationwide."

Das's UK patent stands as a milestone not only in his personal journey but also in Bangladesh's growing footprint in global health technology innovation.
