The Advisory Committee on Government Purchases today approved two proposals to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market for Tk 1,496.37 crore under the direct procurement method.  

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has been authorised to procure LNG worth Tk 754.42 crore at $15.73 per Metric Million British Thermal Units (MMBTU) from M/S Total Engineering Gas and Power Ltd, Switzerland. Another purchase worth Tk 741.95 crore at $15.47 per MMBTU was approved from M/S Singapore Pte Ltd, Singapore.  

Additionally, the committee cleared the procurement of 10,000 tonnes of lentils for Tk 95 crore for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh from Sheikh Agro Food Industries. It also approved the Tk 5,964.10 crore Saidabad Water Treatment Plant (Phase III) Project—Component 1, which includes a raw water pumping station and raw water pipeline.  

Other approvals included the Community Workforce and Services Support (non-consulting service-01) involving Tk 488 crore and the procurement of 30,000 tonnes of fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Ltd for Tk 154.68 crore.  

Meanwhile, the Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs approved the procurement of an LNG cargo from the spot market to meet emergency gas demand. It also cleared the procurement of services for the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, organised by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, scheduled for April 7-10, 2025.
