BB governor to back initiative to reopen closed factories
The newly appointed governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB), Md Mostaqur Rahman, today expressed his willingness to support initiatives aimed at reopening factories that were shut down in recent years.
At a press conference, BB spokesperson Arief Hossain Khan conveyed the governor’s position, saying the central bank would extend necessary cooperation to facilitate the revival of affected industrial units.
He added that the governor had requested officials to support him. By maintaining stability, he will focus on growth and employment generation.
High interest rates are a major obstacle for businesses, which is why the governor will work on ways to reduce the lending rate, said the spokesperson.
The new governor assumed office today after being appointed by the government yesterday for a four-year term, which cancelled the remaining tenure of the outgoing governor, Ahsan H Mansur.
