Food ministry to sell flour at upazila level from Sept 1

The food ministry will begin selling flour at subsidised rates at the upazila level nationwide, starting September 1 this year.
Under the scheme, one tonne of flour will be made available for sale each working day, with consumers able to purchase it at Tk 24 per kilogramme from designated distribution points, according to a press release issued by the ministry today.
The initiative is part of a broader set of measures undertaken by the ministry to stabilise commodity prices across the country and ensure affordable access to essential foodstuffs for low-income households.
Currently, the ministry is distributing rice and flour at subsidised rates through its ongoing open market sales initiative, which operates in city corporations, labour-intensive districts, upazilas, district headquarters and municipalities.
