Eight Pacific Jeans factories in CEPZ to reopen tomorrow

The authorities of Pacific Jeans Group have announced the reopening of its eight factories at the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) tomorrow.
These factories were closed last week following worker unrest.
The management issued a reopening notice signed by the group's Managing Director, Syed Mohammad Tanvir, on Tuesday night.
"Due to recent unforeseen circumstances, the management was compelled to declare indefinite closure of all factory operations from October 16, 2025, under Section 12(1) of the Bangladesh EPZ Labour Law 2019."
"As the overall situation has improved and a favorable environment has been created for reopening, the management has decided to resume operations from October 23," it added.
In the notice, the management urged all officers, employees, and workers to report to their respective workplaces on time and assist in maintaining discipline, professionalism, and a harmonious atmosphere to ensure the smooth resumption of production.
The factories that had been closed are two units of Pacific Jeans Ltd, Jeans 2000, Universal Jeans, NHT Fashion, Pacific Accessories, Pacific Workwear, and Pacific Attires.
According to police, a clash broke out between two groups in front of NHT Fashion Ltd around 9:30 am on October 16.
Afterward, a video clip claiming that two workers had been killed in the clash spread among workers.
Following circulation of the video, incidents of vandalism and attacks took place inside the factory.
In response, the management shut down the factories that night.
Earlier, on October 14 and 15, workers of different Pacific Group factories in the CEPZ staged protests.
On October 18, workers from the closed factories continued demonstrations demanding reopening.
