Budget session of parliament from May 31
The budget session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will start on May 31 at 5:00pm, said a press release of the Jatiya Sangsad secretariat.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin convened the budget session today exercising the power bestowed upon him as per clause (1) of article 72 of the constitution, it added.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is scheduled to present the national budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year on June 1.
The budget for the 2023-24 financial year will be around Tk 7.5 lakh crore, the highest-ever budget in the country.
The National Economic Council announced the new annual development programme of Tk 2.74 lakh crore on May 11.
This will be the fifth and last budget of the Awami League government formed through the December 30 national election in 2018.
The budget session also will be the 23rd session of the 11th parliament.
This year the budget will be presented earlier than the previous occasions because of the Eid-ul-Azha.
The government wants to finish the next national budget before the vacation of Eid-ul-Azha, officials of the ministry said.
The last session of parliament which was a special session to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad was prorogued on April 10 having five sittings.
