Pro-BNP Ctg port workers demand cancellation of deal with Saudi firm
Leaders of a pro-BNP workers association today demanded to cancel the lease agreement with Saudi firm to operate Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) and operate it by the port's own management.
They also demanded the government to step away from its every move of privatising the port's existing facilities including New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) and Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT).
Leaders under the banner of Chattogram Port Workers and Staff Federation, affiliated with Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, made the call at a press conference at Chattogram Press Club today.
It is to be noted that the former Awami League government last year signed a 22-year concession agreement with Saudi firm Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) to operate its newly built terminal PCT.
The interim government is also progressing with another decision of the former government to appoint a UAE firm DP World to operate NCT.
The organisation announced to hold a procession towards the office of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) chairman and submit memorandum on December 22 to press home their demands.
