Bangabandhu murder case: Govt starts process to execute Majed’s death penalty

The government has started the process to execute the Supreme Court verdict that upheld the death penalty of Retd Captain Abdul Majed for killing father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15, 1975.

"After completing the relevant procedures, the court verdict against Abdul Majed will be executed," Law Minster Anisul Huq said in an audio message from his official residence at Gulshan this afternoon.

He said Abdul Majed was directly involved with the conspiracy and killing of Bangabandhu and his family members.

"After examining the documents, evidence and statements from the witnesses, the trial court has convicted Abdul Majed and sentenced him to death for the killing. The appellate courts later upheld the death sentence in the Bangabandhu murder case," he said.

Minister Anisul Huq said Captain Majed has been kept in a solitary cell of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
