2 minor girls 'raped' by father and neighbour

Two minor girls have allegedly been raped, one by her father and another by a neighbour, in Narayanganj and Moulvibazar.

Police yesterday arrested a man on charges of raping his daughter in Shiddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Monday.

The 11-year-old girl shared the rape incident with her mother on Monday night and accused her father of the crime. Knowing the incident, locals beat up the father and handed him over to the police on the same night.

Later, the girl's mother filed a case with local police station on Tuesday.

Shaheen Sha Parvez, officer-in-charge of Shiddhirganj Police Station, said the girl was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital.

Elsewhere, another man was sent to jail yesterday on charges of raping a five-year-old girl in Madhabpur upazila of Moulvibazar on Monday.

The girl was going to a nearby vegetable garden with her cousins when their drug-addict neighbour Mannan Miah, 23, took the girl to a nearby jungle luring her with chocolates, said the girl's father.

Mannan then raped the girl and fled the scene, leaving her unconscious, he alleged.

Chandan Kumar Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge of Madhabpur Police Station, said the girl's father filed a case with the police station on Monday night and the accused was arrested on the same night.

The girl was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, he added.

Rajib Chowdhury, duty doctor of the hospital, said the victim was out of danger.

Locally influential people threatened the girl's family and asked them not to disclose the matter publicly, promising them a solution through local arbitration, alleged the girl's father.
