Child dies, hit by rod falling from building
Yet another life is lost because of construction work without safety measures. This time, a kid was killed at West Hazipara in the city's Rampura.
Five-year-old Ria Moni was critically injured around 12:30pm yesterday when a crowbar fell on her head from the fourth floor of the under-construction building.
The victim along with another child Raju was on her way to a nearby shop to buy snacks, Ria's uncle Saddam Hossain told The Daily Star.
Locals took her to a nearby hospital and later shifted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she died of her wounds around 2:45pm.
Police detained 16 labourers from the building for quizzing, said Officer-in-Charge Moshiure Rahman of Ramna Police Station.
Although the construction of six floors of the building have been completed, no safety measures has been in place at the construction site since the beginning of the construction work, claimed Saddam.
