Owner of Rampura collapsed house sued
Rampura police today filed a case against the owner of the two-storey makeshift house that collapsed yesterday, killing 12 people in Dhaka.
An officer at the Rampura Police Station requesting anonymity told The Daily Star that the accused, Moniruzzaman Chowdhury of Malibagh Choudhurypara, is a local leader of Jubo League, youth front of the ruling Awami League.
"We are searching for the accused," said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station.
At least 12 people including women and children died being trapped under the collapsed house, as the two-store makeshift structure sank in Malibagh Jheelpar (water body) under Rampura police station in the capital.
Major Shakil Newaz, acting director general of Fire Service and Civil Defense who conducted the rescue operation, said that they would go on with the operation until the deputy commissioner of that zone decides to close it.
